In 1965 the Squadron was organized and in anticipation of submitting a formal petition for the charter they
wanted to ask
for the approval of the pennant at the same time. Wes Sanford, Chairman of the Ad Hoc Committee, was named to
make tentative
selections for the design. He received several but wished more, so a contest was started, with wives of members
also
asked to submit designs. After much thought and consideration the following design was selected: (1) The colors
Maize
and Blue are for the University of Michigan. (2) Block
M
for the State of Michigan. (3)
AA
for Ann Arbor. (4) The 5 legs for the 5 Great Lakes.
